Bowen Zhou's Canadian Landscape Artwork reflects on the relationships between modern industrialization, colonialism, the natural landscape, and indigenous land in Canada. The project incorporates various mediums and techniques, such as painting, mixed media, and sculptural construction, to present and manipulate artifacts that reveal the transformation that took place in history.
Through her exploration of the changes that indigenous land has undergone, Zhou creates a forum for reflection on the origins and significance of the spaces and places we inhabit. By conducting conversations and interviews with indigenous scholars and organizations, visiting cultural centers, and engaging in conversations to inform her artistic process, Zhou aims to contribute to the conversation surrounding the relationships between modern industrialization, colonialism, the natural landscape, and indigenous land in Canada.
NAFVan has selected Bowen Zhou to be part of its Young Talent Program, which supports and empowers young artists in the community.
